Higher education

In Australia, higher education is the sector that offers university-level education - that is, at degree-level and above. Government responsibility for this sector is shared by the Commonwealth and State governments.

This website is maintained by the Office of Higher Education, which is part of the Queensland State Government. It has three sections:

Higher education in Queensland
A definition of higher education, information on the role of the Office of Higher Education, an overview of the higher education sector in Queensland, universities at a glance and legislation governing the sector.

Department services
Information on services provided for higher education by the department including quality and approvals, the Queensland Skills Plan, submissions and publications.

International higher education in Queensland
Information for international students wanting to study in Australia, and for Australian students wanting to study overseas, as well as information on the State government's international work.
