Approval legislation

On 29 January 2012, the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) assumed responsibility for the regulation of higher education provision in Australia under Commonwealth legislation, the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011 External Link.

Prior to the implementation of TEQSA, higher education provision in Queensland was regulated solely under the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2008 Adobe PDF document External Link (HEGP Act). The HEGP Act includes approval processes for higher education institutions and offence provisions to protect the integrity of higher education.

With the introduction of TEQSA the Queensland Government is proposing amendments to the Queensland HEGP Act and is therefore under review. Further information will be available here on the progress of the review.
