Overseas higher education institutions

An overseas higher education institution refers to a university or other higher education provider that was established and primarily operates in a foreign country.

Under the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2008 External Link (new window) Adobe PDF document, an overseas higher education institution must not operate, confer a higher education award, or advertise that it will confer an award in Queensland, without the Minister's approval.

The National Guidelines for Higher Education Approval Processes - Guidelines for overseas higher education institutions seeking to operate in Australia (relating to National Protocols A and E) (new window) 839k Adobe PDF document provides information on the criteria and process for obtaining approval to operate in Queensland.
