Overseas higher education institutions

An overseas higher education institution refers to a university or other higher education provider that was established and primarily operates in a foreign country.

Under the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2008 (new window) , an overseas higher education institution must not operate, confer a higher education award, or advertise that it will confer an award in Queensland, without the Minister's approval.

The National Guidelines for Higher Education Approval Processes - Guidelines for overseas higher education institutions seeking to operate in Australia (relating to National Protocols A and E) (new window) 839k provides information on the criteria and process for obtaining approval to operate in Queensland.

List of approved overseas providers

Currently the Office of Higher Education in Queensland has no overseas institutions operating within its jurisdiction.
