Common issues
It is widely recognised that children's learning and development are enhanced through their parents' involvement in their schooling. The Year 2 Diagnostic Net process provides an opportunity for parents to develop an understanding of early literacy and numeracy development and to monitor and support their child's progress during the early years of schooling.
The tasks that schools need to undertake to keep parents informed of Year 2 Diagnostic Net activities include:
Reports must include all focus areas of the Year 2 Diagnostic Net. Schools may wish to incorporate this report into the structure of their regular report documentation. The Year 2 report should be distributed following moderation. If it is released prior to moderation then parents will need to be notified of any phase changes that occur as a result of moderation. The Years 1 and 3 reports should be sent out at the end of the school year. Refer to Information Sheet 21 for more information.
