Structure of sessions

All the training sessions follow a consistent structure. Facilitators should note that each session is divided into parts. This allows facilitators and others to make decisions about how much to present at any given time depending on their particular situation. For example, it may be decided to present the introduction and Parts A and B at one time and the remainder at a later date. Similarly, the sessions do not have to be presented in sequence and, epending on the prior knowledge of participants, Sessions 1 and 2 may not be considered necessary. The contents page lists the parts of each session.

Overview of session

The opening section of each session provides an overview of its content and structure, along with a list of opportunities for further professional development. It is expected that most participants will do some of the listed tasks. These include activities that can be done individually or in collegial groups.

Each session includes photocopy masters, identified by E, that facilitators can use to make resources for their presentations. These are located at the end of the session and are labelled as:

In some cases, activities and discussion are based on books and other documents related to the Year 2 Diagnostic Net. It is important that the facilitator makes participants aware of any texts or materials they need to bring to the session.

The final part of each session offers some options to promote professional development linked to teaching practice. Facilitators and participants can select from the options or develop their own activities.
