Purpose

The purpose of this session is to help participants develop knowledge of the structure and content of the Writing Developmental Continuum and confidence in mapping. Participants will also have opportunities to reflect on their assessment practices.

Participants will:

develop knowledge of the Writing Developmental Continuum and the associated terminology;
map Individual Student Profiles for some students;
develop knowledge of, and confidence in, the mapping process;
share and discuss assessment practices.

Further professional development

Hold year-level meetings to discuss students' writing development.
Arrange for a videotape or an audiotape to be made of a writing lesson or conference. Play and discuss this at year-level meetings.
Discuss writing assessment practices within year levels.
View and discuss the segment 'Geyan - A Writer' (Part 2, Unit 7) in the videotape Early Years Literacy In-service Program (EYLIP) 1994, Department of Education, Queensland.
