The aim of the Queensland Government's school transport assistance schemes is to assist parents without removing their personal responsibility for transporting their children to school.
A Code of Conduct has been developed to encourage and support responsible behaviour of school students travelling on buses. The Code includes information for students, parents, schools and transport operators.
The Department of Education and Training provides school transport assistance for students with disabilities where it is necessitated by the students' disability and the circumstances of the family.
Parents/carers may contact the Education Queensland school or district office in their local area to discuss issues related to school transport assistance for students with disabilities. Details of the program can be found in the School Transport Assistance Program for Students with Disabilities section within the Policy and Procedures Register (PPR).
The School Transport Assistance Scheme is administered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and provides assistance to eligible students in Queensland state schools. Details of the scheme can be found on the Department of Transport and Main Roads School transport page or phone 13 2380.
Students attending non-state schools may be eligible for assistance under the Non-State School Transport Assistance Scheme . This scheme is administered by the Queensland Catholic Education Commission on behalf of all Catholic and Independent schools. This scheme comprises:
