Parents, together with staff from Department of Education and Training (DET), Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and transport operators play a key role in students' transport to school. This guide explains how parents can contribute to the safe and enjoyable travel of their children between home and school.
If you are eligible for Category 1 transport assistance in the form of bus, rail or ferry passes, ensure that these passes are used only by your eligible child, for travel to and from school and home.
If you are eligible for Category 1 conveyance allowance, please ensure that you notify your local DTMR Office immediately if your bank account details change.
If you are eligible for Category 2 contract transport assistance you need to:
Requests for transport assistance for temporary residential accommodation should be made as early as possible. You are responsible for the delivery of medication and belongings to the residential accommodation and to transport your child between home and the residential accommodation if this is necessary.
Any request to vary transport arrangements should be discussed with the school. Parents must not approach transport operators directly to make changes such as change of collection or drop off address or changes to days travelling.
