Safe and Supportive Learning Environments

Education Queensland is committed to providing learning environments which maximise the educational opportunities and outcomes for all students.

The Code of School Behaviour (new window) 142k Adobe PDF document outlines a consistent standard of behaviour for all state school communities in Queensland, inclusive of students, staff and parents and recognises the close relationship between learning, achievement and behaviour.The Code of School Behaviour has been developed to deliver the best possible outcomes for students and promote the development of responsible behaviour.

School communities use The Code as a basis for providing:

Corporal punishment is not allowed in Queensland state schools.

Essential to effective learning is a safe, supportive and disciplined environment that respects:

Schools provide a safe, supportive and disciplined learning environment through:

  1. quality practices in the areas of curriculum, interpersonal relationships and school organisation
  2. fair, just and safe practices that comply with relevant legislation
  3. modelling and practising fair, equitable, non-discriminatory language and behaviours
  4. maximising the educational and social outcomes of all students through identification and reduction of barriers to learning, especially for those vulnerable to marginalisation and exclusion
  5. consideration and use of suspension and exclusion procedures only when all other approaches have been exhausted.
