Schools can adapt and personalise the template Working Together to Keep Schools Safe fact sheets to communicate to parents and students that carrying and using knives in schools is inappropriate and potentially unlawful.
139k 138kWorking Together: A toolkit for effective school based action against bullying provides school staff with practical strategies to address the complex issue of student-on-student bullying. The toolkit unpacks 10 effective actions against bullying and provides examples of fact sheets for staff, students and parents as well as an example anti-bullying policy and links to additional resources.
Working Together: A Starter Kit for developing local Community Alliances Against Bullying and Violence provides school with information and resources to establish local community alliances. Schools and their communities are encouraged to form local community alliances with representatives from all educational sectors and other relevant local organisations.
QSAAV recognised the innovation and commitment of Queensland schools in promoting positive behaviour and providing safe environments for learning. It endorsed the position that effective responses require the engagement of the community beyond the school gates. Community alliances represent one way for local communities to make a public commitment to working together to prevent bullying and violence in their schools. Community Alliances are not mandated by the Department; they reflect the local context, and may take a variety of models, including using existing structures or the formation of a new group.
Queensland Schools Declaration Against Bullying and Violence was signed by all QSAAV members as a public statement of commitment to preventing bullying and violence.
Schools are encouraged to display the Declaration in a prominent area, and to seek every opportunity to share the message of the Declaration with the school community through local communication networks and meetings.
Schools may also wish to consider personalising the Declaration for their local area with endorsement from key stakeholders in your community. A template is provided to assist schools in creating their own Declaration.
Working Together: Good practice in Queensland schools - Case studies of effective school based action against bullying was released in October 2010. These case studies are examples of good local practice in Queensland state, independent and Catholic. The case studies are provided to inspire and assist schools to determine their own local action to address bullying.
Working Together: Understanding student violence in schools was released in October 2010. It provides information to assist schools to understand the complexity of violence as well as the latest thinking about best practice in managing violence between students in schools. It also provides a list of resources for further information.
In 2011, QSAAV produced two template fact sheets for schools to use to communicate with parents and students: Working Together To Keep Schools Safe.
139k 138kThe student consultation was conducted by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian 
on behalf of QSAAV. The consultation focused on elements of the schools toolkit and asked students if, and how, they want to be involved in developing and implementing a school anti-bullying policy. The report includes the findings of the consultation as well as providing a model for schools to adopt in their own student engagement processes. The forms used in the student consultation process by the Commission are provided as appendices and can be downloaded and adapted by schools.
