Background to the program

SWPBS has been operating in the United States for more than 20 years and has achieved excellent results for schools throughout the US.

Two of the leading US academics involved in developing the program - Professor George Sugai from the University of Oregon and Professor Tim Lewis from the University of Missouri Columbia - helped establish the program in Queensland in 2005.

Education Queensland's program has direct links to the United States National Technical Assistance Centre on Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports. EQ schools can access resources and support from the centre, in addition to working the project coordination team in Education Queensland.

A review External Link (new window) Adobe PDF document of the current status of evidence for Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support is available on the Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) website.
