Assessment and monitoring

Second or additional language development is monitored and assessed using the ESL Bandscales (National Languages and Literacy Institute of Australia ESL Development: Language and Literacy in Schools). When students move from one school setting to another, a report on their developing English language proficiency should go with them.

Most ESL students will need continued support for a number of years. ESL teachers are available for collaboration, team teaching and resource development with mainstream teaching staff.

Education Queensland provides information on Bandscales for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners.
