Childcare options

One of the most significant issues for young people with babies and young children is finding affordable, reliable child care.

Some schools have developed child care facilities on site; other schools have negotiated with local services for priority to be given to young parents attending school.

The types of child care available include:

The MyChild External Link federal government initiative provides parents and carers of children with a one-stop shop of information on important health, early learning, early childhood education and care and parenting support issues and initiatives.

The MyChild website is particularly useful for parents looking for local early childhood education and care options. It includes a searchable database of early childhood education and care services including details of the services they provide and fees charged.

The Department of Education and Training, through the Office for Early Childhood Education and Care (OECEC) is responsible for providing high quality, integrated early childhood education and care services for all Queensland children from birth to 12 years. Their website provides a text-based search of child care services throughout Queensland via the 'Find your nearest kindergarten ' button.
