Priorities in practice: A manual for occupational therapists and physiotherapists
The Priorities in Practice manual provides Education Queensland occupational therapists and physiotherapists with a framework to identify and prioritise students' needs for occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy services at school. Details of this framework can be seen in the manual, in addition to:
- Tools for occupational therapists and physiotherapists to use when prioritising student need for assessment in response to information contained in the Education Queensland Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Services, Service Request Form
- Tools for occupational therapists and physiotherapists to use when prioritising student need for services after assessment, and for planning and negotiating appropriate service delivery options with education team members
- Planning strategies to assist therapists manage their workloads.
The processes outlined in Priorities in practice are approved processes and should be used to ensure that Education Queensland occupational therapy and physiotherapy services are provided according to departmental procedures.
The processes:
- promote comprehensive documentation about student priority for occupational therapy and physiotherapy services and the rationale used to make recommendations to the educational team about services
- assist occupational therapists and physiotherapists provide efficient and effective services
- ensure equity of access to services for students with disabilities
- contribute to appropriate and relevant decision-making within teams and
- improve students' with disabilities access to and participation in educational programs and outcomes.
Priorities in practice: A manual for occupational therapists and physiotherapists is issued to each Education Queensland occupational therapist and physiotherapist.
