The Education Support Funding Program (ESFP) is a collaborative initiative funded by the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services) and administered by the Department of Education and Training. The program is designed to address educational disadvantage experienced by many students in the care of the State. The ESFP is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services) and the Department of Education and Training.
The ESFP involves the distribution of funds to support Queensland students subject to child protection orders that grant guardianship or custody to the Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services). These funds are made available to assist students across the state, Catholic and Independent schooling sectors.
Assistance provided under the ESFP must be linked to goals identified through the Education Support Planning process. Schools are required to develop an Education Support Plan (ESP) within one month of the enrolment of a student who is in care, or within one month of the school becoming aware that a student has been taken into care. The ESP identifies appropriate strategies to address priority education needs for students in care.
