Stakeholders

AGQTP stakeholders include:

The AGQTP is the Australian Government's main initiative for improving the quality of school teaching and leadership in Australia. It was established in 1999, and by the end of 2003-04 the AGQTP had provided more than 240,000 teacher professional learning opportunities across all states and territories and across all education sectors.

The Australian Government is committed to supporting and developing teachers' skills in key priority areas. The AGQTP is one element in the Teachers for the 21st Century (new window) initiative.

In supporting the teachers' complex and professionally demanding charter to improve the educational outcomes for students, the programme provides opportunities for ongoing and targeted professional development to meet school and individual needs.

Partnerships forged through the involvement in the programme as well as celebration of achievements will make the nature of teachers' work better known and understood, consequently addressing the need to improve the status of the teaching profession.
