Commercial Activity

Schools may use their web site to publicise goods and/or services of a business through trade, advertising, sponsorship or contra deals (e.g. where a school previously sold advertising space in their newsletter they may also sell advertising space on their web site).

All commercial activities in a school must:

Be negotiated with organisations whose public image, products or services are consistent with the ethos and values of The Department of Education and Training
Not impact on the primary business function of the school i.e. teaching and learning
Not involve endorsement of a product or service
Be free of any conflict of interest
Not be a condition of a student's participation in a sponsored activity
Be documented and records maintained under

Purchase of web design services

Website design and development services must be purchased in accordance with FNM-PR-014: Purchasing Goods and Services.

Corporate Logos

Trademarks e.g. a company's logo, are protected under the Copyright Act. Schools should seek the permission of the Copyright owner before using a trademark.

Use of Departmental Logos

Restrictions apply to the use of the Queensland Government and The Department of Education and Training. Before using these on your website please contact The Department of Education and Training.

School Logo

When schools engage persons to create new school logos, principals should always ensure that a written agreement is entered into whereby the State of Queensland ("the State") owns the copyright of the logo.
