Create a blog page type - e.g. Community News

Objective:

Log in as administrator

  1. Log into Joomla as an administrator by going to http://yourschool.eq.edu.au/wcms/administrator

    • or by clicking on the Administrator link in your menu.

Create a new blog format page

  1. Open Content > Category Manager > New (button)

    (or the New Article button).

  2. Enter Community News into the Title field with title case or enter the page title to a title of your choice.

    1. In the Section dropdown box select News.

    2. Click Save button (top-right).

  3. Your new Community News blog Category is created in the News section.

Display content submitted to this Category

  1. Open Menu > Quick Links > New (button) to create a new menu link.

  2. Select link type Category Blog Layout and a new menu link will be created.

  3. In the new Category Blog Layout - Menu Item Details panel: (below)

    • Enter Community News in the Title field.
    • Enter YourSchoolName... Community News for the Alias.
    • Leave Parent item as Top unless attaching it to the main menu in which you could attach this page to News and Events or Our Community as a sub-menu link.

  4. On the right panel: (below)

    • Change the Category dropdown box to News/Community News.

    • Below this also change:
      • Leading to 0
      • Intro to 10
      • Columns to 1 (or 0)
      • Links to 10

      Update right side blog layout style

    • Click Save (button).

This will display in a blog style layout, the news articles for the Community News page.

This will be linked from the Quick Links menu (or wherever you choose to link it from).

Conclusion

Staff with an elevated role, i.e. more that just a registered account, can now add articles to this Community News blog page.
