Create and organise dynamic content

Objectives:

  1. Create a new "Section" in which to organise "Categories".
    • e.g. Curriculum or Sport (general top level subject container).

     

    • These are top level containers in which to organise or group related "Categories".
  2. Create new "Categories" in which to organise related "Articles" (web-pages).
    • e.g. Maths and English (within "Curriculum" Section).
    • e.g. Golf and Swimming (within "Sport" Section).

     

    • These are the lower level containers in which to organise a topic/subject related "Articles" (web-pages).
  3. Create new "Articles" (web-pages).
    • e.g. "Grammar Contest", "Poetry Recital" (within "English" Category).
    • e.g. "Swimming Carnival", "Class Schedule" (within the "Swimming" Category).

     

    • These are the "Articles" that will display on the "Section"/"Category" pages.
    • These can be displayed in a table, blog or list layout.

Note: content that does not have a parent Section / Category is known as "Uncategorised".

Log into the Admin panel

  1. Open http://yourSiteName.eq.edu.au/wcms/administrator

Create a new Section

  1. Open Content > Section Manager.

  2. Click New New button in this Section index.

  3. Enter the Title "Sport" (or other top level container name).

  4. Click "Save"Save button

Create new Categories (in "Sport" Section)

  1. Open Content > Category Manager.

  2. Click NewNew button image button in this Category index.

  3. Enter Category Title as "Rugby League".

  4. Select Section "Sport" (dropdown box).

  5. Click SaveSave button image button.

Repeat steps 1-4 to create a "Tennis" Category also in "Sport" Section (or any other categories required).

Create new Content items

  1. Open Content > Article Manager.

  2. Click New New button image button in this Article (webpage) index.

  3. Enter Title "Teams" in Section "Sport", Category "Rugby League".

  4. Click Save Save button image button.

Note: You can split your content item into "introduction text" and "main body text" by selecting the "Read More" tab at the bottom of the page.

Now that the content structures are organised, create the menu links so the content can be viewed.
