Change module positions and organise site layout

Objectives:

Open your school website

  1. Review your school website at  http://yourschool.eq.edu.au/wcms/

What we want to change.

Task 1 - Change briaskISS (Image Slide Show) and the Events Calendar to unpublish, the image-slide-show above content disappears and the content (front-page component) moves up.

Task 2 - Reassign modules Latest News and Popular to the right so that they move to the right column area and the page footer moves up to the bottom on the front-page component.

Task 3 - (not pictured) - assign modules Latest News, Popular and Latest Events to only appear on the website landing/home (front) page and Sitemap page.

The new layout will be arranged like this:

Log into the Admin panel

  1. Log into Joomla as an administrator by going to http://yourschool.eq.edu.au/wcms/administrator

    or by clicking on the Administrator link on the Main Menu.

Unpublish modules from the website

  1. Open Extensions > Module Manager

  2. Click on the green tick to the right of ImageSlideShow (see image below)

    • ImageSlideShow will now disappear from the website.
  3. Click on the green tick to the right of the Events Calendar

    • Events Calendar will now disappear from the website.

These module items have been unpublished/removed and have disappeared from the website.

Edit module positions and display settings

Click Latest News index link and change these settings (image below)

  1. In Details- change the Position dropdown from user1 to right
    • The Latest News module will now move to the right column.
  2. In Menu Assignment using the Ctrl key, scroll down and select mainmenu/Home and topmenu/Sitemap
    • Latest News will now appear only on these 2 pages.
  3. In Parameters change Count from 5 to 10
    • Now the 10 latest pages (new or edited) will be listed.
  4. In Parameters change Order to Recently Modified First
    • Now the latest edited (new or edited) page will be at the top.
  5. Click on the Save button to set these changes.

Click Popular index link and change these settings (image below)

  1. In Details, change the Position dropdown from user1 to right
    • Popular module will now move to the right column
  2. In Menu Assignment using the Ctrl key, scroll down and select mainmenu/Home and topmenu/Sitemap
    • Popular will now appear only on these 2 pages
  3. In Parameters change Count from 5 to 10
    • Now the 10 most popular pages will be listed
  4. Click on the Save button to set these changes.

 

Preview your website changes

  1. Click the Preview button to view your changes.

 

  1. Image Slide Show should be removed and Popular and Latest Events longer and moved to the right.
