Disability Action Week 2008

14 to 20 September 2008

Disability touches the lives of most Queenslanders in some way - through the experiences we have with friends and family, in our schooling and further education, at the workplace and in the community. One in five Queenslanders has a disability of some kind.

The key objectives of Disability Action Week (DAW) are to encourage positive attitudes towards people with a disability, improve access and make our community a better place for everyone.

Each year DETA shines a spotlight on the skills, achievements and aspirations of people with a disability and encourages employees to see the person, not the impairment.

Disability Action Week Awards

The Disability Action Week Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have contributed to improving the quality of life of people with a disability in Queensland.

In 2007 more than 100 nominations for the DAW Awards were submitted by Queenslanders. Fourteen winners were chosen and presented with their awards at a luncheon at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 2008 Disability Action Week Awards nominations are open now.

You are encouraged to nominate an individual or organisation that deserves recognition for a 2008 DAW Award. If you want to learn more about how to nominate for the DAW Awards please visit the following website External Link.
