National Reconciliation Week is celebrated annually from 27 May to 3 June. It was established to highlight the importance of building stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2012 is "Let's talk Recognition", with a particular focus on Australians better recognising each other and the contribution, culture and history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. For more information about National Reconciliation Week visit the Reconciliation Australia website .
In 2012 the Diversity unit, Human Resources, hosted an informal "Picnic in the Park" at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens for Department of Education, Training and Employment staff on May 31.
All staff were invited to attend and participate in the reconciliation conversation with colleagues and Community Elders.
