To assist state schools with the coordination of the Future Teachers initiatives within their school.
The Future Teachers Project was a suite of interrelated initiatives focused on promoting and fostering an interest in teaching as a career. The project supported students to participate in a range of activities designed to showcase the work of the teacher in schools (the club) and to provide students with an opportunity to fast track their teaching career (the program).
Initiatives under the Future Teachers Project included:
Future Teachers Club: extra/co-curricular program that enables students to explore teaching as a career option
Future Teachers Program: a structured program partnered with state schools and higher education institutions that enables students to undertake initial teacher education (ITE) courses
Future Teachers Bursary: financial assistance in the form of a one-off bursary provided to secondary students who enrol in an approved course towards an ITE program.
Duration of program
State P–10/12 and state high schools with eligible students were invited to submit an EOI for inclusion to the Future Teachers Club and Future Teachers Program (applications for the Future Teachers Bursary was a rolling application for individual students).
Allocation of funds
Funding provided to schools was based on the following methodologies:
Program/club payment: participating schools could receive appropriate support and resources to assist in the establishment and effective delivery of the program or club within the school. Delivery costs may include enrolment, study, travel and resources for program delivery.
Bursary payment: participating students could receive a $200 study assistance payment to cover costs such as textbooks, stationery and campus visits. Where required, students who must pay tuition for the tertiary education study courses could also receive payment to cover these costs. Bursary payments were made to the school that the student was enrolled in and was distributed to the student once received by the school.

Payments to participating schools were calculated based on the information identified in the school’s application to participate and final details confirmed before payment is made. Applications were submitted online by the school.
Funds for this program were paid based on student participation in the program or club.
Recoupment may have been sought where all identified students enrolled in the program/club exit the school.
Recoupment of funds may also have been sought should the school fail to adhere to the terms and conditions of the program or club.
