The Mentoring Beginning Teachers (MBT) program focuses on the professional development and growth of our beginning teachers with an aim to improve teaching quality and support beginning teachers to transition from graduate level to proficient level with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Principals will have the flexibility to make local arrangements to support the mentoring of beginning teachers according to their school context and needs.
Annual evaluations of the program will be undertaken to ensure schools have provided the appropriate mentoring arrangements to support beginning teachers.

State schools who can identify as having beginning teachers. For the purposes of entitlement to a mentor and Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS) funding, teachers who meet the following criteria will be considered beginning teachers:
- provisionally registered with the Queensland College of Teachers
- have worked for less than 200 days
- are employed permanently or on a term-long temporary contract in a Queensland state school.
Note: that the funding follows the beginning teacher.

The program is calculated at the end of each term based on the numbers of identified beginning teachers and paid early in the following term.
There are no regional funds under this program.

Schools do not need to apply for these funds. Beginning teachers are identified by Human Resources and their base school will receive payment at the end of each term. Principals are contacted when MBT payments are made.
These projects are derived from the former government's initiative Great teachers = Great results: A direct action plan for Queensland schools.
