Remote Area Incentive Scheme Induction Program

Purpose

To assist schools to induct and provide information to teachers relocating to remote indigenous communities by delivering tailored induction programs specific to their region.

The following activities will be typically evident in induction programs provided by each region.

Community and culture – Respect and value 

  • Welcome to community – Orientation tour
  • Where will I be living? Local Accommodation Committee (LAC), tenancy and accommodation and pets
  • What services are available?
  • School orientation and resources
  • Community cultural orientation
    • Who we are and our history
    • Protocols and expectations.

Teaching and learning - Establishing relationships 

  • Class structures and resources – who are the students and where will I be teaching?
  • Pedagogy and curriculum
  • Staff handbook – departmental polices and work expectations
  • Meet the parents – establish a relationship
  • Community/staff gathering meeting.

Keeping yourself well 

  • Physical and mental health and well-being
  • Work life balance
  • Recreational activities
  • Support structures – Facebook and social media
  • If things go wrong.

Eligibility

Schools that are required to induct relocating teachers and are listed in the Remote Area Incentive Scheme schools list (DOCX, 25KB).

Allocation of funds

Regions with eligible schools manage their programs in the following ways.

Central Queensland Region

No funding is provided to schools. Funding is used by the region to support the Centres for Learning and Wellbeing (ClaW) program.

Darling Downs South West Region

Eligible schools will receive a base payment of $1000.

The remaining program budget is then distributed to schools based on a pro-rata full-time equivalent (FTE) allocation.

North Queensland Region

Funding is distributed to schools upon successful application for reimbursement. Applications must provide evidence of outlays towards the outcome of the program.

Far North Queensland Region

Funding is distributed to schools upon successful application for reimbursement. Applications must provide evidence of outlays towards the outcome of the program.

Payment details

Payments are made to schools based on their regions individual methodologies outlined above. Where a payment is made to a school, the payment will be made in the next scheduled monthly payment after the application has been approved.

How to apply

Darling Downs South West schools are not required to apply for funding. Funding is automatically calculated and paid to eligible schools.

Schools in the Far North and North Queensland regions will need to submit their claim to the regional office and will be reimbursed upon the approval of the application.
