The Teacher Relief Scheme – Safety Net is a process that considers school based requests for compensation where expenditure of Teacher Relief Scheme – Special/Sick/Emergent (TRS SSE) funds to manage classroom teacher sick/special/emergent leave exceeds the appropriation provided to the school for this purpose.
A safety net application can only be submitted for a completed semester. Applications for historical (unclaimed) semesters will be considered according to individual circumstances.
The safety net process is managed centrally to ensure state-wide consistency.
Applications can only be submitted from the Principal's email account or by their delegate with the application signed by the Principal. Safety net funding will only be considered if an application is submitted for consideration.
Late applications may be carried over for assessment the following semester at the discretion of Human Resources. Schools may only make a safety net application after existing TRS SSE appropriations allocated for the semester are exhausted.
TRS SSE Safety Net appropriations will not be provided in anticipation of an overrun.
All TRS SSE Safety Net requests are subject to an approved benchmark criteria with regard to the department's expectations concerning internal teacher replacement. All TRS SSE usage and classroom teacher leave must comply with approved safety net criteria.

All Queensland State Schools.
Allocation of funds
Schools must submit an application for prior semester by 28th February and 16th of August annually using an application template. Applications are assessed by Workforce Resourcing (Human Resources) and approved by the Assistant Director General: State Schools Operations.
