January 2022: Face-to-face and online language courses with The University of Queensland
Global Opportunities within DEi, in partnership with The University of Queensland—Institute of Modern Languages (UQ IML), is offering 2 language courses for Queensland state high school students studying Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Both courses will be conducted during the Queensland summer school holidays, in January 2022, with the option to attend face-to-face or online.
Face-to-face UQ IML Language Enrichment course
For students in Year 11-12 studying Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Course dates: 10 to 14 January 2022 (dates to be confirmed)
Session length: 3 hours per day with a 30min break
Session time: 9.00am–12.30pm
Venue: The University of Queensland, St. Lucia Campus
Funding: DEi will fully fund program costs (other than those noted in the 'Exclusions' section below) for successful state school students.
Exclusions: Costs of transportation (including flights to/from Brisbane for regional students and any ground transport), accommodation in Brisbane and any meals in addition to the catering provided at UQ IML. Regional participants must arrive in Brisbane with a parent/guardian, who will be responsible for the student outside of course hours.
COVID-19 safety: Social distancing measures will be strictly adhered to.
Online UQ IML Language Enrichment course
For students in Year 9-12 studying Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Course dates: 10–14 January 2022
Session length: 1.5 hours for students in Years 9-10 and 2 hours for students in Years 11-12
Morning (10.00am–11.30am) for students in Years 9-10 studying Japanese, Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Afternoon (1.00pm–3.00pm) for students in Years 11-12 studying Japanese and French (only).
Delivery mode and technical requirements: Online delivery. Participants will need access to a reliable internet connection, computer, headphones, a webcam and be able to connect via Zoom.
Funding: DEi will fully fund program costs for successful state school students.
Students can only register for one course: online or face-to-face.
