Opportunity overview

The Department of Education International supports the development of our students as global citizens by providing opportunities for students to participate in youth forums offered by the Asia Education Foundation (AEF).

AEF's Go Global programs engage students with Asia and the world, helping them develop the skills required to navigate and succeed in a globally connected and culturally diverse world.

Go Global programs provide students with the opportunity to:

  • understand the importance of global competencies and Asia capabilities
  • explore future pathways for their higher education and career
  • deepen their understanding of local, regional and global issues and consider their role in taking action in the community and
  • explore opportunities available to young Australians, including scholarships, involvement with youth organisations and government initiatives such as the New Colombo Plan.

Global Goals Youth Forum (Secondary)

The Global Goals Youth Forum seeks to acknowledge the role of young Australians in taking action to solve the global issues of our time.

Throughout the forum, students are challenged to work collaboratively in teams of 6 to draw on the Global Goals for Sustainable Development as a resource and develop an understanding of different perspectives through engagement with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration documents, to develop public spaces, programs, products or services that create inclusivity for our culturally diverse communities.

To address ways to create inclusive communities students will develop their 'big idea' through structured design thinking. At the end of the day, each team is invited to pitch their 'big idea' to the audience. Their 'big ideas' are then collated and shared in a report of key outcomes.

Students will also have the opportunity to hear from and speak with industry experts, who share their insights about the global issues that impact on the local community and how their work contributes towards achieving the Global Goals, as well as highlight opportunities for young people to get involved.

Prior to the forum, teachers are provided with a comprehensive information pack, including pre-forum student learning activities as well as suggestions of post-forum activities.

A forum is currently planned for Toowoomba in 2020.

Global Goals Primary Forum

Building on the success of its Global Goals Youth Forum for secondary students, AEF is delighted to partner with the Queensland Department of Education to pilot a new Global Goals Primary Forum, targeted at Year 5 and 6 students.

A forum is currently planned for Toowoomba in 2020.
