Universal screeners—phonics and numeracy check

Purpose

To assist schools with implementing universal screeners including Year 1 phonics check and numeracy check through the Teacher Relief Scheme (TRS).

Eligibility

State schools, special schools, hospital schools, distance education schools with Year 1 students

Allocation of funds

The program includes 2 TRS days for training, familiarisation and administering these checks.

The funding allocation (2 x TRS) is calculated based on the number of Year 1 classes in each school as at August 2025.

The funding allocation for special schools is calculated based on the number of Year 1 enrolled students at a rate of 1 payment (2 x TRS) per 10 students, as at August 2025.
