Purpose
To provide funding to Independent Public Schools (IPS) who choose to opt out of the Computers for Teachers (CFT) program and receive a cash appropriation to manage the program within the school. All teachers eligible to receive a departmentally supplied laptop under the CFT program must receive an appropriate laptop under the school’s managed scheme.

Eligibility criteria for funding
Independent public schools are eligible to opt out. Where a school opts out, they remain outside of the CFT Program for 4 years. They may choose to opt back in at the end of their 4 years or continue to opt out.
A school may only opt out when the majority of their devices are due for replacement in the current financial year and receive endorsement from the schools IT Customer Manager and approval from the Assistant Director General, Information and Technologies, People and Corporate Services Branch.
Allocation of funds
Funding is calculated as follows:
- Number of eligible staff X (Contract Cost of the Base Model Laptop
or the actual cost of the laptop purchased by school [whichever is less])

How to apply
To participate in the program, schools should:
- review the
IPS Computers for Teachers opt out fact sheet for all relevant information
- notify the Manager, Computers for Teachers, that the school wishes to opt out of the CFT program and receive reimbursement in lieu of CFT laptops
- submit the opt out application form (provided by CFT) accompanied with the IT Customer Manager’s endorsement.
