Quality research is vital to the department. We rely on robust evidence to understand the impact of what we do and to improve how we do it.
We use research to:
- inform policies and programs
- find approaches to teaching and learning that meet Queensland's diverse needs
- support service delivery
- transform practices
- improve the links between education, industry, the non-government sector and the broader community.
Research plan
Our
research plan creates alignment between research and the department's strategic priorities to get the most out of research activities and investment.
Principles that guide our research (including the department's
standards for ethical research practice) ensures it is:
- accessible
- ethical
- integrated and aligned
- open and collaborative
- high quality.
The plan also includes information about the process of applying to conduct research.
Research priorities
The department's research priorities are underpinned by our
Equity and Excellence: realising the potential of every student strategy. Through the research priorities, the department:
- encourages internal and external researchers to investigate critical areas of relevance to the department
- prompts research into emerging areas of education and key Equity and Excellence focus areas
- informs decisions about the department’s research activities and investment in research
- contributes to driving equity and excellence in schools and across our education system.
The department has identified 5 research themes and 14 broad research topics drawn from Equity and Excellence system initiatives and school priorities to maximise the benefits to the government and local communities of research undertaken within schools or other departmental locations. All research applications submitted to the department to conduct research on departmental sites, with departmental students, staff or data, and/or during school hours must align with at least 1 of the research themes or research topics.
