The department's Education Horizon research grant scheme funds high-quality local research that aligns with the government's priorities and the department's research prioritiesinto topics that align with the department's strategic direction. Project findings and outcomes contribute to the evidence base that supports systemic change and improves educational outcomes.
Queensland researchers with a Queensland-based sponsor organisation are eligible to apply at the time of invitation to their university's vice-chancellor office.
Education Horizon—2026 round
The Education Horizon 2026 round is now open, providing up to $400,000 in funding for successful projects. Applications close on 13 April 2026.
A new approach is being taken this round, with the department focusing its research investment on issues critical to improving outcomes for Queensland children and young people.
Researchers are invited to provide proposals to address the following research questions:
- What are parent perspectives regarding enrolment and participation in kindergarten programs in Queensland? How do these perspectives influence enrolment and participation in kindergarten programs?
- What factors influence outcomes for students enrolled in schools located in rural and remote communities including factors outside of the schooling environment and complexity related to accessing and participating in education?
