Influenza and many common respiratory infections are highly contagious and spread from person to person via coughing and sneezing. The best way to protect yourself and others from influenza type infections is to be proactive and adopt good hygiene practices for
infection control.
The flu vaccine will not combat Coronavirus (COVID-19), however it may help reduce the severity and spread of seasonal influenza, which can lower a person’s immunity and make them more susceptible to other illnesses. Please visit
Queensland Health or the
Australian Department of Health for up to date information on Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Departmental flu vaccination program for staff
There is currently a Whole of Government – Standing Offer Arrangement (SOA) for Workplace Health Services (QGP0048-18). This SOA lists flu vaccination providers able to provide this service for 2018-2023. All major regional cities and towns are serviced for flu vaccinations (e.g. Cairns, Townsville, Mackay etc.) Many of our smaller, more remote locations are also serviced by the providers, however there are some exceptions.
For information on how to arrange flu vaccinations for employees in departmental schools and workplaces, search for ‘staff flu vaccinations’ on OnePortal.
Queensland Health has a wide range of information resources about influenza and prevention.
