In 2018, the Honourable Grace Grace MP, Minister for Education, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing established the Ministerial Student Advisory Council to give Queensland students an opportunity to provide feedback and advice about a range of education matters.

The advisory council provides the opportunity for students across Queensland to share their perspectives on important education matters and the impact of broader issues on learning.
The advisory council:
- provides advice, feedback and shares views on critical and emerging issues for Queensland school students
- considers expert presentations and provides advice on implications for Queensland students
- provides suggestions on current strategies and possible future actions to address emerging issues
- provides student views on current and future policy and practice.
The council is chaired by the Minister for Education and consists of a group of 16 students from state and non-state schools across Queensland.

The advisory council generally meets twice a year or as required if there is a particular matter to be discussed.
Meeting outcomes
Student feedback and ideas from advisory council meetings help to inform future government policy and program development.

Focus: School solutions to vaping and parent and community engagement.
23 April 2024 – meeting 1
Focus: The rollout of the away for the day phone policy in schools and how schools have been positively impacted by the introduction of the policy.

Focus: The challenges of schools and ideas for schools of the future.

Focus: Mobile phones in schools, virtual learning and artificial intelligence.

Focus: COVID-19 impacts on student learning and wellbeing, and recognising Year 12 students ending their schooling in 2020. This was the first time that the advisory council met virtually using an online platform. Note: No illustration was created for this meeting.

Focus: The future of education including the National Declaration of Educational Goals for Young Australians (also known as the Melbourne Declaration).
