Program overview
The Starting Successfully program empowers early career teachers with tailored professional learning and support to kickstart their career. Investing in teaching expertise is a key pillar of the Equity and Excellence strategy.
The flagship program is aligned with professional standards and designed to support the transition from graduate to proficient career stage, assisting early career teachers to generate evidence of practice for full registration.
Through comprehensive school induction, support and mentoring, collaboration with a cohort of peers, access to a series of masterclasses and a dedicated professional learning portal and resources, participants will develop their teaching practice to thrive in their role.
Target audience
All Queensland state school early career teachers, including new graduates starting in Queensland state schools and preservice teachers with permission to teach (PTT).
Objectives
The 12-month flagship program aims to:
- provide a warm welcome, orientation and comprehensive induction for early career teachers to their school, region and the Queensland Department of Education
- empower teachers to deliver effective curriculum, teaching and learning through professional learning tailored to their early career stage
- support teachers to thrive in their career and establish professional networks.
Structure
Over their first 12 months, early career teachers will have access to:
- onboarding, orientation and induction—a welcome to your school, region and the Department of Education
- mentoring—by an experienced teacher to provide collegial support, guidance and feedback opportunities
- opportunities to build your support network—connecting you with early career colleagues through the statewide program and collaboration opportunities
- professional development masterclasses—focused on professional learning to support your entry and development in the teaching profession
- a dedicated online portal—access to resources and practical support for your professional growth.
Virtual masterclasses
A range of masterclasses will provide practical and relevant support to guide your practice, including:
- classroom management
- reading through the Australian Curriculum
- P–12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting framework
- assessment and moderation
- supporting diverse learners
- OneSchool for beginning teachers.
