The National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a series of national tests to assess the skills of Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students in numeracy, reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar. These tests provide information on how all students are performing against national benchmarks. They are held online in Term 1 each year in all schools across Australia.

The literacy and numeracy tests form a key part of the National Assessment Program.

The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is responsible for the overall management of the Australian National Assessment Program, in collaboration with representatives from all states and territories and non-government school sectors.

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) coordinates the administration, marking and reporting for Queensland.

Online test

The ACARA NAPLAN Online public demonstration site provides parents, students and teachers with the opportunity to become familiar with the types of questions students will answer and the functionalities that are available in NAPLAN tests. Further information about understanding online assessment is available on the NAPLAN website.
