Information and communication technologies (ICT) are an important part of contemporary schooling. The Australian Curriculum includes ICTs as a general capability across all learning areas, as well as Digital Technologies as a specific learning area.
Many schools implement one-to-one ICT device programs, where students use a dedicated electronic device to enhance their learning experiences.
In consultation with their community, schools
decide whether a one-to-one program is appropriate to support their students.
One-to-one models
Schools that decide to implement one-to-one programs undertake research and consultation to decide how the program will be implemented. This includes a
range of models including the scope of implementation within the school, how devices are funded and owned, and how devices are selected.
Further advice
For parents, families and communities
Parents, families and community organisations (including vendors) are encouraged to contact their local school to discuss its student ICT program. School contact information is available through the
schools directory.
If your school is using the new BYOx Link service to connect student BYOx devices to the school network, a range of
information sheets and instructions are available. These information sheets will help students and parents/carers to connect devices to the network. If you are unsure if your student uses BYOx Link, please check with your school.
For schools
The department provides advice to schools about how to investigate, initiate, implement and integrate one-to-one student ICT device programs and offer a range of supporting technologies services and resources. Staff can access these through OnePortal.
