The department committed further funding from 2021 to 2024 to improve children’s transition from early childhood settings into schooling through a focus on effective partnerships and best practice approaches to early years curriculum and pedagogy.
The Step up into Education (2021–2024) initiative will assist schools to work with transition research partners to evaluate and modify their existing transition programs to:
- build collaborative partnerships with Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) service providers, educators, children and families
- demonstrate evidence-informed, best practice approaches to transitions and early years curriculum and pedagogy, as identified in current research and literature
- determine strategies and initiatives to meet the needs of children and families.
Schools selected to participate in the initiative have demonstrated a commitment to early year’s improvement. These Spotlight schools will lead inquiries into effective and evidence-informed early years practice that enhance children’s transition to school in line with the principles, action areas and outcomes of the
