For your child's home education registration to remain current, you will need to submit an annual written report on their educational progress by the due date.
This is one of the standard conditions of registration in Queensland.
Due date for annual report
You can find the due date for your child's report in the letter we send you when registration is granted. The Home Education Unit (HEU) will also contact you before your annual report is due.
When your child’s reporting period opens (in the ninth month of your child’s registration) you’ll receive an invitation email containing a unique link to access the online reporting form. The link will remain valid until the report is due (the tenth month of your child’s registration).
For example, if your child was registered for home education in January, you'll receive a link in September so you can report in October.
The link is unique to each child's registration and reporting date. You'll need to use a unique link for each child registered for home education.
It is important you submit your report by the due date because the date cannot be extended. This is a provision in the legislation, and the HEU can't change this, regardless of the circumstances. If your due date has passed, you may have received a Show Cause Notice. Please do not hesitate to contact the HEU about the next steps.
Using the online reporting form
You
must use the approved
reporting for registration for home education form (DOCX, 774KB) and the unique link we send you to submit the report on your child's educational progress.
Important: To submit an online annual report using the unique link, you must complete the form on a desktop computer, laptop or tablet. The form does not work on mobile phones.
The parent must submit the report for their child. You may engage a third party to help you prepare the report, but they cannot submit the report.
You can also submit your report by email or post by completing the approved form—reporting for registration for home education (DOCX, 77KB)
What to include in your report
Your report should include:
- a reporting for registration for home education form
- a written report on your child's educational progress
- an appropriately updated educational program summary for the following year if your child is continuing to be registered for home education.
Optional templates
You must show that your child has received a high-quality education and provide information about the educational progress of your child during the reporting period.
For continuing registration, you must also submit the summary educational program for the following year, demonstrating you will provide a high-quality education updated to be suitable for the age, ability and aptitude of your child.
We provide some optional reporting templates and examples to guide you. You do not need to use the templates, and can submit your report in another format of your choosing.
We provide the optional templates as a resource to help you determine how much detail to provide when outlining the education your child has received over the past 12 months and the progress they've made.
