The Department of Education acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Queensland. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Welcome

Achieving a successful schooling outcome greatly enhances employment prospects for all young Queenslanders.

A key priority is that every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student in Queensland is afforded the opportunity to realise their potential.

The department has an array of education initiatives to support and extend Aboriginal students and Torres Strait Islander students. These draw upon the culture and identity of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve positive educational outcomes for all.

Equity and Excellence

Through the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration, we as a nation, committed to equity and excellence in education—that all children and young people are confident, creative lifelong learners active in their community.

The Equity and Excellence: realising the potential of every student strategy sets a clear vision for a progressive, high-performing education system.

Improving outcomes for First Nations students is a key focus across all priorities and measures, setting the imperative for schools to ensure every First Nations student can realise their potential.

Equity and Excellence is about reducing barriers for all learners to enable them to realise their potential. It provides schools with clear priorities across each student's learning journey and recognises how each learning phase is underpinned by curriculum, teaching and learning.

More information about the strategy, our focus areas, educational infrastructure and digital innovation in teaching and learning, is available on the Equity and Excellence page.
