Primary healthcare services in schools

Students in selected primary and secondary schools can access free primary healthcare at school. General practitioners (GPs) or nurse practitioners work with students and their families to identify and address health issues impacting on students' engagement with learning. The service provides timely and appropriate access to healthcare for a wide range of health and mental health concerns at no cost to students or their families. GPs and nurse practitioners will provide referrals to medical specialists, allied health professionals or other external agencies when required.

The GPs in State Schools Program places GPs in 50 Queensland state schools with secondary students 1 day per week during school terms at no cost to students and families.

Health Practitioners in Primary Schools Program

The Health Practitioners in Primary Schools Program is supporting selected schools to deliver a primary healthcare service to primary students at their school 1 day per week at no cost to students and families. Health practitioner services are delivered by a GP or a nurse practitioner.

The following 10 schools are participating in the program:

  • Berserker Street State School
  • Bundaberg Central State School
  • Deception Bay North State School
  • Flagstone State School
  • Gladstone South State School
  • Harristown State School
  • Heatley State School
  • Morayfield East State School
  • Raceview State School
  • Woree State School.
