Financial data collection

PublishingPageContent

The Queensland Government collects school financial data from non-state schools in order to devise a measure of school resources—the School Resource Index (SRI). The SRI is applied to recurrent grant allocations (as part of the needs component) and is updated each year through the annual collection of financial data.

Chapter 13, Part 3 of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (the Act) authorises the collection of this data.

Under Section 370 of the Act, the governing body of a non-state school must, on or before 30 June each year, give the Queensland Minister for Education financial data, for the school, relating to the previous year of operation of the school. Only schools that have been in operation for the whole of the previous year are required to provide the data.

Section 370(4) of the Act states the source of the data must be the audited financial statements for the school's governing body for the relevant year.

The data to be entered is identical to that provided to the Commonwealth's Department of Education, Skills and Employment and includes details of the school's:

  • recurrent income
  • capital income
  • recurrent expenses
  • capital expenses
  • trading activities
  • loans
  • other financial information.

As the information derived from the collection is used to determine the SRI, it is imperative that all schools ensure the accuracy of the data provided and that the data collection form is submitted by the due date.

Section 372 of the Act outlines the penalties for providing false or misleading information or documents to the Minister, and section 373 relates to the confidentiality of the data provided.
