Apprentices and traineeships combine training with working in a real job and are sometimes undertaken while still attending high school. Apprentices and trainees work towards the completion of a nationally recognised qualification while learning valuable skills in a work environment and under the guidance of a training organisation.

The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) website provides detailed information about vocational education and training, pre-vocational courses, apprenticeship and traineeship qualifications and adult community education, short and refresher courses.
