To assist schools with the replacement of approved classroom teachers for the Restart Teaching program, where the classroom teacher is an approved facilitator for this program.
To support a beginning teacher’s induction to the teaching profession, additional non-contact is being provided to eligible teachers from the beginning of 2021.
This additional non-contact time will assist beginning teachers with the development of their teaching skills and their transition from graduate level to proficient level with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
All permanent and temporary classroom teachers in their first 12 months of teaching will be provided additional non-contact time per week in addition to their entitlement to non-contact time as prescribed in the Teachers’ Award and Certified Agreement.
From 2021, the non-contact time to be provided to beginning teachers is set out below.
|Primary||120 minutes||60 minutes*||180 minutes|
|Special||120 minutes||60 minutes*||180 minutes|
|Secondary||210 minutes||70 minutes||280 minutes|
Duration of program
Teachers who meet the following criteria as at the first school day* each year will be considered beginning teachers for the entire school year:
- employed permanently or on a temporary contract in a Queensland state school
- employed at Band 2 Step 1 salary level
- provisionally registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
* Eligibility for existing teachers engaged on temporary contracts after the first day of school will be determined based on their status as at the first day of their appointment. Eligibility for newly appointed teachers made after the first day of school, such as mid-year graduates, will be determined as at the first day of their appointment.
Allocation of funds
Funding to support the additional non-contact time is calculated centrally at the end of each term based on the numbers of identified beginning teachers and paid directly into a school’s bank account early in the following term via the School Appropriation and Payments Application (SAPA).
|Term 1||April||100% of the entitlement for the term|
|Term 2||July||100% of the entitlement for the term|
|Term 3||October||100% of the entitlement for the term|
|Term 4||January (the following year)||100% of the entitlement for the term|
|Beginning teacher full time equivalent||Human Resources (MyHR system)||End of each term|
How to apply
Schools do not need to apply for this funding. Entitlements will be automatically calculated and paid based on facilitators and their allocated group and the data collection cycle.
