The department allocates funding to state schools through appropriations (and to non-state schools through grants). An appropriation is public funding provided to the department as part of the Queensland Government budget process.
Payment of grants, appropriations, school invoices and recoupments from schools must be generated in the department's School Appropriation and Payment Application (SAPA). Recoupments are only possible if the original payment was made through SAPA and meets the relevant requirements for a recoupment.
