​​​Purpose

To assist state schools in an identified remote location to access funding to engage contractors for school cleaning in lieu of employing department staff.

Identified state schools.

Allocation of funds

Based on actual costs to engage a contract cleaner for the cleaning of the school.

Currently, the following school is eligible for this funding:

  • Hayman Island State School.

Payments are based on actual costs to engage a contract cleaner for standard cleaning activities, as per the cleaning scope of standard cleaning activities under the school cleaning allocations and the cleaning contract.

Any additional cleaning undertaken above the standard cleaning scope is to be met by the school. Payments will be paid each semester based on 50% of the contract price.

Infrastructure Services Branch (ISB) will be provided with a copy of the cleaning contract by the principal.

Eligibility requires that consultation with the relevant union has occurred, regarding the state school not being able to access staff to undertake the cleaning.

Note: On receipt of the cleaning contractors invoice, schools must pay the invoice within the required timeframes to meet departmental standards.

How to apply

Where state schools are unable to fill cleaning positions with department employed school cleaners, they should contact their regional office for advice.

​Recoupment process

​​Where circumstances change and the cleaning contract is no longer required (for example, employment of a staff cleaner), any funds paid to the school but not expended on the contract will be recovered via a School Appropriation and Payment Application (SAPA) recoupment schedule.​
