Purpose
The program provides statewide support to regions and schools in the areas of vision impairment support and assistive technology. It is managed through Narbethong State Special School and includes the alternative format library service, including braille transcription, the education low vision assessment centre, orientation and mobility services, braille advisory service and assistive technologies. These services support schools to provide reasonable adjustments required to support students who are blind or have low vision to engage with their curriculum.

Narbethong State Special School will be the recipient for the majority of the funding under this program.
Allocation of funds
An annual budget of $147,362 is distributed to and managed through the Narbethong State Special School for
statewide services for students with vision impairment including:
- brailled resourcing
- Learning Development Centre (LDC) workshops (assistive technology).
Narbethong State Special School has been selected to manage this annual budget, as it specialises in the provision of vision impairment services.
2023–25
Additional funding of $300,000 for 2023–24 and $1,488,473 for 2024–25 financial years to ensure the provision of essential services including materials for alternative format production, travel costs to support Statewide Vision Impairment Services staff to provide direct student services across every region, equipment for students including servicing and repairs and ophthalmology/orthoptic support.
Payment details
Payment for this program will be split between October 2024 and February 2025.
In November 2023, an additional payment of $300,000 is allocated to ensure the provision of essential services.
In October 2024, an additional payment of $983,197 will be made and the remaining additional payment of $652,638 will occur in February 2025.
How to apply
There is no application required for Narbethong State Special School to receive this funding. Funds are paid automatically each year by central office.
No application process was required for the supplementary payment. Central office identified the eligible schools and distribute the funding automatically.
