School Based Itinerant Operational Appropriation

Purpose

To assist schools to meet the annual operational costs associated with school-based itinerant staff.

Eligibility

State primary, secondary and special schools and units that have itinerant staff based at the facility who meet the following criteria:

  • travel from their base school on a regular basis to other schools during the normal day
  • work outside their base school for more than the equivalent of 2 days—0.4 full-time equivalent (FTE)—per week
  • perform itinerant duties as part of a program supported by the district cluster of principals and approved by Manager, Education Services
  • are employee type coded as per an official category of staff.

The official category of staff of all employees eligible for funding includes:

  • advisory visiting teachers
  • guidance officers
  • senior guidance officers
  • specialist support staff (e.g. speech language pathologists, learning support teacher, communication teacher, integration teacher, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, psychologist)
  • behaviour management staff
  • instrumental music teachers
  • LOTE and English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D) teachers.

Reading recovery teachers are not included in this list.

Schools should contact the principal human resource consultant in their regional office for confirmation of itinerant staff numbers prior to payments in April and October. It is currently the responsibility of regional human resource consultants to report each itinerant staff member on the specialist support staff collection spreadsheet.

Current rate x number of school-based itinerant staff in excess of 5

For example, a school with 7 itinerant staff would receive: (current rate x 7) + (current rate x 2)

Current rates

Semester entitlement of $432 per itinerant staff FTE.

The following schools are ineligible as they have an alternative funding arrangement:

  • Dalby State High School – Bunya Campus
  • Queensland Children's Hospital School.
