Purpose
To assist state schools to implement and respond to Starting Strong literacy and numeracy monitoring tasks with
Prep to Year 2 students.

State schools with enrolments in Prep to Year 2
Allocation of funds
A fixed annual budget of $5.746m is allocated to schools based on the following.
- 80% of annual budget is allocated on Index of Community Socio-educational Advantage (ICSEA)* weighted Prep - Year 2 (average) enrolments (schools with ICSEA value of 1000 or more will not receive this component)
- 20% of annual budget is allocated on total student enrolments in Prep–Year 2.
*ICSEA is a scale that measures educational disadvantage determined by the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) through the collection of student family background data.

Schools do not need to apply for this funding. Entitlements are automatically calculated and paid each year.
