Purpose
To assist Queensland state schools by supporting projects to embed sustainability across the school facilities and curriculum, while saving resources and money for the school.
Duration of program
Ongoing from 2022
Eligibility
All Queensland State schools including special schools, environmental and outdoor education centres.
Allocation of funds
Successful schools and centres will receive an approved allocation after all applications have been reviewed and assessed by the assessment panel. Schools will be assessed as per the criteria in the Sustainability Appropriation Guidelines.
The assessment panel is made up of the following members:
- Manager, Facilities Management Services
- Nominated Officer from Infrastructure Services Division
- Nominated Officer from Teaching, Leadership, Rural and Remote Division
- Nominated State School or Education Centre Principal
- Principal Facilities Services Officer, Utilities and Sustainability.

Recoupment policy
Recoupments of the Sustainability Funding appropriation can only be processed where:
- there is a genuine error in the original payment, for example, an incorrect calculation or the incorrect school is entered on the SAPA schedule; or
- the school/centre is unable to fulfil the outcomes of the project as outlined in the funding application proposal.
How to apply
To seek funding through the Sustainability Appropriation, schools and centres should submit a Sustainability Appropriation application form when applications open in January.
